Ceiling Fans with Lights

Your Guide To Choosing Ceiling Fans with Lights

Ceiling fans are an aesthetically pleasing addition to any house. Besides looking like spinning chandeliers, they help circulate cool air during hot summers. They also help reduce the cost of utility bills.

Unknown to many, ceiling fans can also warm rooms during the cool seasons. During summer, the blades of a ceiling fan turn counterclockwise. This motion creates a breeze effect which circulates the air during hot weather. Changing the fan's blades to a clockwise rotation pushes the rising warm air down. Recirculating the atmosphere warms the room, which saves on the cost of air conditioning bills.

Popular Types of Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans enhance your home décor and are a great way of making your home more comfortable. There are many types and styles of fans, each with unique features.
Depending on the usage, there is no shortage of fantastic options offering a balance of value, style, and function. The common types of household ceiling fans include the following:

Standard Ceiling Fans

They are the most common type of ceiling fans and are the most versatile. They come with four or five blades and have options of including a lighting kit in the center. The ceiling fan blades are usually mounted under or on the motor. Contemporary ceiling fans have ditched the pull chain for a more technologically advanced remote control and/or a wall control.

They are popular because they are easy to blend with any decor. They are available in various colors, with some of the most popular finishes being: matte black and oil rubbed bronze. White ceiling fans and brushed nickel finishes are also very popular. There‘s also a wide variety of styles and sizes with, many modern ceiling fans including reversible blades that give you the option to customize the look. Most also include downrods which allow indoor ceiling fans to be mounted on both flat and sloped ceilings and reversible motors to regulate the airflow.

Energy-Saving Ceiling Fans

These energy-efficient, typically led ceiling fans, are Energy Star-approved and designed to meet the guidelines of the Environmental Protection Agency and often use a DC motor. Led ceiling fans with dimmable led lights are nearly 60 percent more energy efficient than other fans. They have a higher initial cost but provide long-term savings on energy expenditure.

Dual-Motor Ceiling Fans

These fans add an extra function not found in traditional ceiling fans. They use double fans connected using a sturdy horizontal bar. You can adjust the angles using a remote control to allow for multidirectional airflow patterns, which can be particularly useful in great rooms.

Low Profile Ceiling Fans

Low-profile ceiling fans don't have a downrod to suspend them from the ceiling. The flush mount ceiling fan acts as a hugger to the ceiling.
Low-profile ceiling fans or ”hugger ceiling fans” are recommended for homes with low-level ceilings allowing you to enjoy the air circulation without minding your head.

Smart Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fan aesthetics have come a long way. Modern ceiling fans now have Wi-Fi connectivity from having light kits and being controlled via handheld remote control. Smart devices and voice assistants, including Google Assistant, Siri, and Amazon Alexa, can adjust the airflow.
These fans give you the convenience of being able to operate your fans with voice control. In conjunction with a smart thermostat, these fans can monitor changes in temperature in different parts of the room. The smart home system will turn the fans on and off to keep temperatures balanced.

Outdoor Ceiling Fans

If you want to install ceiling fans with light fixtures in patio or porch areas, you should consider indoor/outdoor ceiling fans. They are rated differently depending on the elements they will be exposed to.

  • Damp rating. These are well suited for areas that may be exposed to humidity and protected from direct rain.

  • Wet rating. These fans are suitable for open gazebos, pool areas, or waterfronts.

Outdoor ceiling fans have top-notch resistance and can function for more extended periods than other types of fans.

Ceiling Fans: With or Without Light

After going through the tiresome process of choosing a fan, another puzzle awaits you. Should the ceiling fan come with light or not? The decision will come down to the fan's location in your home.
Ceiling fans with led light kits are ideal for small rooms or offices. The ceiling fan has to be in the center of the room to allow for even light distribution. If the room is small enough, you may not even need an additional light kit.
A ceiling fan with lights may not be the solution for larger spaces like living rooms and kitchens. A ceiling fan without lights combined with separate lighting sources will help illuminate such rooms better. Always remember to consider room size when sizing both the fan blade width and ceiling fan light output.

Benefits of a Ceiling Fan With Lights

When upgrading your home décor, choosing ceiling fans with led lights may have certain benefits. These benefits include:

Excellent Light Distribution

Centered ceiling fans with lights evenly disperse light in the room. They come installed with LED bulbs which tend to be brighter than standard bulbs. You can also dim or brighten the lights using a remote control.
All Year Energy Saving

As the world errs on the side of energy conservation, it's only wise to adopt the usage of environment-friendly appliances. Ceiling fans with led lights have energy-saving lamps which use significantly low power. The lower power demands translate to pocket-friendly electricity bills and less strain on the planet.
Decorative Purposes
The customizability of ceiling fan LED lights allows homeowners to adjust the desired hue depending on ambiance. Their bespoke design variations add to the subtle elegance of your home, which goes beyond their functionality.
3-Blade or 4-Blade Ceiling Fans: Which One is Better
Settling for the perfect ceiling fan is easier said than done with so many options. The size and number of blades influence the airflow intensity and quietness of the fan.

Ceiling fans with fewer blades have more robust motors, thus spinning much faster. They produce a more significant wind chill effect. On the other hand, ceiling fans with more blades make a gentle breeze and are much quieter.
3-blade ceiling fans move at high speeds and have fewer parts. Having lighter blades mean they require less energy to spin. They tend to be noisier because of the high-speed motor and are ideal for outdoor use.
4-blade ceiling fans move air much slower than 3-blade fans because of the added weight. They are stylish and cost more. Bedrooms and living rooms are the preferred locations for these ceiling fans because they produce lower ambient noise.

What Is The Best Size For a Ceiling Fan?

Ceiling fans are essential fixtures that provide much-needed ambiance in a space. They also play an important role in indoor and outdoor climate control. Thoughtful placement and sizing of fans can help homeowners reduce energy consumption as air is circulated efficiently.
When considering fans for a space, blade width and ceiling height are the most important factors to consider to ensure you're sizing the fan appropriately.
Ceiling fans should be sized based on the overall size of the room. For rooms greater than 300 square feet, consider fans with a minimum 60-inch blade span.
When hanging ceiling fans, they should be a minimum of 84 inches (7 feet) from the base of the fan to the floor. Ideally, the fan is hung at 96 inches (8 feet) or 108 inches (9 feet). The fans should be placed in living and family rooms.
For rooms smaller than 300 square feet, consider ceiling fans with a 54-inch blade span or smaller. When hanging ceiling fans, they should be a minimum of 84 inches (7 feet) from the base of the fan to the floor. Ideally, the fan is hung at 96 inches (8 feet) or 108 inches (9 feet). These fans will fit perfectly in bedrooms.
